County Transportation to Phase-In Services June 1

Somerset County Freeholder Melonie Marano, public works liaison, has announced that the county’s transportation division will begin phasing-in its services on Monday, June 1. Paratransit services and the transit shuttle will be operating on a modified schedule. Fares will be waived until July 1.

Residents and service operators will be required to adhere to state-recommended social distancing guidelines by wearing facial coverings, and vehicles will be limited to operating with 50% occupancy.

Rider restrictions
Residents who are experiencing any symptoms related to COVID-19, such as difficulty breathing, and fever and coughing are not permitted to use the county’s transportation services and should immediately contact a healthcare professional.

Paratransit services
Restrictions for reservations will be implemented. Residents are required to make reservations for no more than two weeks in advance for service to medical appointments, and no more than one week in advance for service to shopping stores. Residents should be mindful when making reservations so that everyone has an opportunity to use these services.

Public transit shuttles

Shuttles will be operating on a holiday schedule. Until further notice, CAT transit will not be providing service for RVCC. Shoprite located on route 28 in Branchburg will be the last stop. To view the schedule, visit https://bit.ly/ShuttleSchedule2020.

Safety is a priority
Since the safety and wellbeing of residents and employees are Somerset County’s number one priority, transportation schedules will be reviewed and adjusted by the county management team as deemed appropriate.

The disinfection of all vehicles will be completed after every shift. Additional cleaning procedures will be performed to ensure that all vehicles are sterile.

Somerset County Transportation provides para-transit service to older adults and persons with disabilities, as well as general public transportation services to residents. For more information, call the Transportation division at 908-231-7115, Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
