Economic Impact Checks for Senior Citizens Explained

SOMERVILLE – Tired of technical jargon? This is a brief explanation for senior citizens who just want to know basic information about receiving their Economic Impact Checks. Most senior citizens including Social Security recipients and Railroad Retirees will automatically receive an Economic Impact Payment of $1,200 without ever having to lift a finger, even if they did not file a tax return. Additionally, if Social Security recipients or Railroad Retirees have a child – and if their child is eligible – there are steps that recipients can take to receive an extra $500 per child. Verification of Payment
Senior citizens will receive a confirmation letter from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) about 15 days after their stimulus check has been paid. The letter will be mailed to their most recent known address and will explain how their payment was issued and what to do if they have not received payment.
Beware of Scams
If recipients are unsure that the confirmation letter is legitimate, they should contact IRS.gov to help them identify and verify that the confirmation letter is not a scam. Experts advise people to not provide personal information to any entity other than the IRS.
Checking the Status of Payment
Taxpayers who have filed a tax return can check the status of their payment online at Get My Payment . Senior citizens who have not filed a tax return and receive an SSA-1099 or RRB-1099, will not be able to check the status of their payment online.
Just like receiving their benefits, non-taxpaying seniors will receive checks either by mail or payment will be deposited directly into their account. Accounts will be identified by the information that is provided on the recipient’s SSA-1099 or RRB-1099.
