Senior Center to Offer Gentle Fitness Class - Nia/Melt Exercise, Enjoy the Art of Movement

MONTGOMERY – Who wants to get fit and have fun? Somerset County Freeholder Brian D. Levine urges anyone age 60 and above to enroll in the Nia/MELT exercise class, which will be held from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., on March 4, 11, 18 and 25, continuing through April 1, 8, 20 15 and 22, at the Montgomery Senior Center, located at 356 Skillman Road, Skillman. The deadline to register is Feb. 26. The cost is $40 for the eight-week session. Comfortable clothing and sneakers are required.

What are Nia and MELT? Nia is a unique workout that incorporates dance, martial arts, and yoga. Myofascial Energetic Length Techniques (MELT) is a simple full-body, self-treatment exercise technique that uses a soft foam roller and little balls for the hands and feet.

Enjoy a one-hour fun and fabulous fitness class that combines Nia/MELT with a series of lightweight exercises, and no experience is necessary. Reap the rewards of health benefits such as improved bone density, pain reduction, and stress relief. MELT may also help to rebalance the nervous system, decompress joints, and improve the body’s overall alignment and movement. Exercises are practiced while standing and sitting. The Montgomery Senior Center is operated by the Somerset County Office on Aging and Disability Services. The multi-purpose facility offers a variety of activities including educational programs, health and wellness information and a stimulating social setting.
