SOMERVILLE – Freeholder Deputy Director Brian D. Levine invites county youth in grades seven to 12 to a “Youth Summit on Whole Life” that will be held Saturday, May 19, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in the first floor conference room of the Somerset County Human Services building, located at 27 Warren St. Free parking is available in the adjacent parking deck, third level or higher.

Registration is required by Friday, May 11; seating is limited to the first 70 registrants. To sign up for the free event online, visit the county website at http://bit.ly/WholeLifeSummit18. Or, contact Human Services Coordinator Sarah Murchison, county Department of Human Services, at 908-704-6307 or murchis@co.somerset.nj.us.

“The summit was collaboratively designed by teens and adults, representing a variety of community organizations,” said Freeholder Deputy Director Levine. “It will offer youth a safe and engaging way to discuss their health concerns.”

Summit participants will attend three activity-based workshops, including “Next Level Nutrition,” which will be presented by Living Healthy Program Coordinator Jennifer Korneski from Rutgers Cooperative Extension. Other workshops will include “Power to Choose,” presented by APPI Coordinator Tierney Vats of Zeal Health Center, and “Color Away Stress,” designed by Hana Suri from Richard Hall Community Mental Health Center.

This event is sponsored by the Somerset County Humans Services Advisory Council and the Youth Council through a planning grant from the New Jersey Department of Children and Families. Somerset County’s summit is intended to raise awareness of healthy behaviors and decision making and to encourage a healthy lifestyle for participants.

Two and a half hours of Community Service Learning certificates will be awarded to teens who participate.
