The Somerset County Department of Health (SCDOH) advises all residents to be mindful of snakes while spending time outdoors.
Although most snakes in New Jersey are harmless, some snakes can be poisonous. To minimize your risk of interacting with a venomous snake, residents are encouraged to:
• Wear closed-toed shoes
• Use a flashlight when outdoors after dark
• Watch where you walk
• Look before reaching into vegetation or firewood
• Scan the property before letting your dog out in the yard
