BASKING RIDGE, NJ – The Somerset County Park Commission’s Environmental Education Center is hosting its annual children’s art show. “Nature Through a Child’s Eye” features artwork depicting nature and the environment as interpreted by Somerset County students in grades K-6. The exhibit showcases brightly colored sketches, drawings, paintings, and collages that were created with various media, such as oil pastels, pen, ink, hot wax, marker, pencil, watercolors, and collages.

“Visitors will enjoy seeing the pictures of nature as interpreted through a child’s eyes at this uplifting event where kids are excited to show-off their artwork to family members,” said Somerset County Park Commission Secretary-Director Geoffrey Soriano. “The Park Commission is an advocate of extracurricular activities for children. Through other interests and extracurricular activities, children build self-confidence, and it also gives them a healthy outlet for coping with the emotional challenges.”

Children’s Art Show 2024 – Date, Time, and Location
The Children’s Art Show 2024 will be held at the Environmental Education Center, located at 190 Lord Stirling Road, Basking Ridge. The exhibit is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Monday, Feb. 4.

Environmental Education Center
The Environmental Education Center (EEC) at Lord Stirling Park offers approximately nine miles of hiking trails, naturalist-led programs, school field trips, fun festivals, nature-themed exhibits, facility and classroom rentals, a resource library, science, and conservation research, and more. The goal of the EEC is to improve environmental literacy in Somerset County and beyond.

Somerset County Park Commission
The Somerset County Park Commission stewards nearly 15,000 acres of county-owned open space, which is visited by 2 million park users each year. Five golf courses have three driving ranges, a pitch and putt course and a recreational putting course. Other attractions include a riding stable, an environmental education center, two tennis facilities, an outdoor pool, paddle boating, a rock and rare plant garden, an award-winning rose garden, an arboretum, and a sensory and fragrance garden. Six county parks offer amenities such as athletic fields, picnic facilities, bike paths, fishing, birdwatching, cross country skiing, and hiking.
