6/29/2023 - Update on Air Quality / Wildfire Smoke Today

UPDATE

While 6 hour air quality index values have averaged close to 100, current air quality index values have risen to 150 - 200 which is much more unhealthy for the general public. Watching satellite, the thickest plume of smoke from Canadian wildfires is currently over Pennsylvania, and it will also drift across western NJ as well for the rest of today.

IMPACT

This will not be nearly as impactful as the thick plume of smoke that affected the region earlier this month, but with unhealthy air quality today, people should reduce time spent outdoors and take more breaks while doing intense outdoor activities. More of a southerly breeze tomorrow will help diffuse the smoke even more, so the air quality shouldn't be as bad, but might still be unhealthy for more sensitive groups of people.
