Golf and Tennis Programs Will Be in Full Swing This Season

BRIDGEWATER, NJ – Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and for the public’s safety, as well as the safety of the Commission’s staff, the Somerset County Park Commission has made the difficult decision to cancel three of its annual spring-summer events. Arbor Day Give-Away and the Rose Day Festival held at Colonial Park, and the Fourth of July celebration, which usually occurs at North Branch Park will be postponed until 2022.

“We are excited that tennis programs at the Green Knoll Tennis Center and Colonial Park are a go, and outdoor programming at the Environmental Education Center is happening too,” said Somerset County Park Commission Director-Secretary Geoff Soriano. “There is light at the end of the pandemic tunnel now that our parks are open while we are complying with the Governor’s Executive Orders and the New Jersey Department of Health’s guidelines.”

“The Leisure Service Committee has evaluated the venues and the overall health risk to residents, plus the amount of time it takes to pre-plan these events, and has decided that it would be in the public’s best interest to postpone the events until 2022,” said Somerset County Commissioner Paul Drake.

The decision to cancel some events was determined by the Somerset County Park Commission’s Leisure Services Committee. Members of the committee include Commissioner President Mark Caliguire and Commissioner Vice President D.J. Hunsinger, Commissioners Ron Jordan and Kevin McCallen, Deputy Directory Pierce Frauenheim, and Administrator of Leisure and Community Services Dina Trunzo.
