COUNTY SURROGATE & COMMISSIONERS INVITE PUBLIC TO VIRTUAL NAACP LIVE EVENT
‘History in Action: NACCP’s Past and the Future’
The free presentation will be held on Feb. 25 at 6 p.m
SOMERVILLE, NJ – Join Somerset County’s Commissioner Director Shanel Y. Robinson and Commissioner Deputy Director Sara Sooy, along with Surrogate Tina Jalloh and local leaders from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), for an interesting live-stream free presentation about the NAACP. “History in Action: NACCP’s Past and the Future,” to be held on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 6 p.m., will provide a brief history of the NAACP, focus on the accomplishments that were achieved through local NAACP initiatives, and feature a panel of young leaders who will discuss what inspired them to take action.
“The local NAACP has been actively fighting for civil rights since 1909,” said Commissioner Director Shanel Robinson. “It’s one of our nation’s largest civil rights organizations and has a rich history of advocating for social justice. Today the NAACP continues to champion for worthy causes such as healthcare, economic empowerment, equal rights, and social justice.
“This event will be especially interesting for young people who are interested in advocating for societal changes. I believe it’s important for the next generation to get involved. The NAACP’s ACT-SO program, which is a year-long youth enrichment program where business leaders and community volunteers mentor youth to promote academic and artistic excellence is so important to our communities,” she said.
Leading the panel discussion will be Jerijah McCray, who was recognized as “Youth Champion” of the NAACP New Brunswick Branch, Jasmin Bonner, Elorm Ocansey, and Grace Johnson. Other presenters include NAACP President New Brunswick Branch Bruce Morgan, NAACP Tri-City Area Branch President Ray Daniels, and ACT-SO Chair New Brunswick Branch Liane Stone Ingalls, and Somerset County Surrogate Tina Jalloh. Congresswoman Bonnie-Watson Coleman will also speak in a video message. Somerset County’s Commissioner Director Shanel Robinson and Commissioner Deputy Director Sara Sooy will provide commentary at the presentation.
