The Borough Office of Emergency Management (OEM) develops and maintains extensive emergency response plans so that when disaster (manmade or natural, anticipated or without warning, accidental or intentional) strikes the response will be coordinated and as comprehensive as possible. When the disaster strikes the OEM coordinates the response and orchestrates resources and responses from other municipal, county, state, federal and non-governmental agencies.
If you have an emergency, dial 9-1-1.
Somerset County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan Update 2018
During the latter part of 2017 and through most of 2018 your OEM will be working with the county to update the (natural) Hazard Mitigation Plan for the county of which our Borough's plan is a part. The Hazard Mitigation Plan can be viewed by CLICKING HERE. We will be making a number of presentations at public events and meetings (Council Meetings and Land Use Board meetings) to introduce the process and solicit input from the public about natural hazards perceived by residents. For more information please visit the county Hazard Mitigation Page by CLICKING HERE.
Alerting Residents and Visitors to an Emergency
At noon on Saturday we often test the sirens. Please disregard sirens exactly at noon on Saturday unless they run repeatedly.
We will be working on the siren system in the coming weeks. Tests will only be 1-4 cycles at least 10 minutes apart.
Should an emergency occur without warning our office's biggest challenge is the timely alerting of residents and visitors to the existence of the emergency and the response they should take. Such emergencies are rare, but when they do occur it becomes critical to get everyone's attention. A principle element of this alerting plan is our system of sirens.
We will update these resources as quickly as possible to inform people what to do to protect themselves, their loved ones, and their property.
In addition, you can subscribe to PGNotify Emergency Alerts which will send you an email in the event of an emergency. If you'd like these alerts sent via SMS/text, that can be done as well.
If you experience an outage due to the weather, please report it using one of the following methods:
Steer clear of downed power lines. Always assume they are live and dangerous. Report downed lines immediately to 888-544-4877.
